After I Die

put me in the ground
no magnificent marble
no bronze marker
only wilted roses
left for one mourner
she who witnessed
my darkness
in the morning light

and after I die
tell no stories
sing no songs
look towards heaven
no prayer on your lips
or memories in your hearts
for I never was
only to her

In The Darkness

head-voices interrupt
nighttime’s silence
my sleep’s pending forgiveness —
I try not to listen

a soft wind rustles the pines
crickets chirp a Dorian melody
I remember this sea chantey:
~repair the hull
replace the sail
the monkey wrestles
with the ghost~

and in the shadows
I’m breathing stagnant air
directing lost sailboats
into the ebb & flow
a cold warning —

of black ocean waters
surfacing high tide
in the thickening fog
lost, as the lighthouse
beacon dims —

I cannot sleep

Night Deposit

her fat-breasted artist’s fascination
with the swirling indigo night
thickens over time & time again
as she inventories the stars
the numb moon’s flickered light
mostly staccato dabs on a cracked canvas
stored in the horizon’s night
deposit for another day
